Introduction Blog LBSU 302

Hello Readers,

My name is Raquel Estrada and Psychology is my major. This semester will be my first at Brandman. Ive been employed the with the same girl's group home for almost two years. I aspire to become an MFT.

I have become fascinated with the effect of mindfulness and meditation; I plan to research the effects of this practice thoroughly. As emphasized in the text, my main goal is to become my own gatekeeper to seek information that has been peer reviewed by legitimate sources. Primary sources and first hand experiences of the effects of mindfulness and meditation is what I plan to research. I hope to improve on enhancing my evaluation skills to know what writers and works are highly regarded in the discipline I am researching, as suggested by Badke in the text. Thank you for reading, until next time!

  1. Hello Raquel! I do not know much about MFT's what is it they do exactly and how will that pertain to your major. You are a very strong woman for being able to work in a girl's group home I am sure all of them appreciate you immensely. I took a yoga class once and the peacefulness I felt after was indescribable. I think a lot of people could benefit from doing things such as meditation to relax their mind especially with the chaos of daily life activities. I know for me it lies more in finding the time to do it rather than actually doing it. Good luck this semester!

  2. Raquel, I just had to respond to your research topic since I believe it is such an important topic for us. I look forward to hearing more from you as you do further research on this topic of practicing mindfulness. The eastern religions have placed much emphasis on the importance of mindfulness. And yet, in the west, I think the average person is not mindful at all. We are so often pre-occupied and self-absorbed – in some ways, the opposite of mindfulness. I believe this is often what is missing in our lives – and not only is it important for our personal safety and more importantly our own spirituality and communion with nature, living beings, God, and all else that is of lasting importance. I think you have chosen a great topic!
